What company were you an intern at and how did you find out about it?
I was an intern at Worth, a digital agency here in Brighton. I found out about the internship via the Wired Sussex website. I ended up getting an internship as an assistant producer.
What were the reasons you went for an internship?
I felt that I needed a change of direction after working in music for many years. Whilst I had a range of experiences and skills applicable to most workplaces, I felt that I needed to gain some industry specific skills in the digital world, and the internship offered that opportunity.
What were your duties and what experience did you take away with you?
I worked in a digital agency as a producer and account manager on two large national accounts. The experience of working in an agency environment is probably one of the most valuable experiences I gained. Additionally, working in a professional environment that was quite different to what I was used to and being pushed to develop new skills in that environment have given me valuable tools moving forward. It was a positive experience.
What did the internship lead on to afterwards?
After the internship, I stayed on as a full-time account manager and also did some project management. I have since moved on, but the skills that I learned I will take with me wherever I go. It was definitely a positive and worth-while experience for me.
Would you recommend an internship to others?
I would certainly recommend the internship programme to anyone interested in advancing their career or simply gaining valuable new skills. My experience was positive and it has definitely helped me gain a more clear perspective on what I want to pursue. The programme has opened doors and given me a variety of options moving forward.
