Rosie Miles

What company were you an intern at and how did you find out about it?

I initially found out about the Brighton Internship Program through the Wired Sussex website a couple of years ago but discovered it a little too close to the deadline to apply properly. I attended their Jobs and Skills fair last year and decided to apply again, this time for the animator position at Le Singe Media, which I completed in December.

What were the reasons you went for an internship?

I didn't feel quite qualified enough to apply for any of the animation posts I had seen advertised previously, as they were generally high-up positions for experienced directors or animators. Also I didn't want to go the freelance route as I wanted to spend time working as part of a team. I thought that an internship, even if it didn't lead directly to employment, would be very good for my CV.

What were your duties and what experience did you take away with you?

I had the opportunity to improve my animation techniques and learn to use new programs, whilst working for big companies. I created a set of web banners, some mobile phone animations and helped on various other projects such as music videos and TV commercials.

What did the internship lead on to afterwards?

I am currently employed as an animator at Le Singe Media.

Would you recommend an internship to others?

I would definitely recommend an internship to graduates and anybody else trying to get into creative media. The experience I gained during my internship will be invaluable for my career and has given me confidence in my future as an animator.
