Photek are manufacturers of detectors and camera systems for photon detection. Photek supports the industrial and scientific communities. Manufactures streak tubes, image intensifiers, photomultiplier tubes and a range of associated electronics and camera systems. Applications include astronomy, bioluminescence, spectroscopy, scintillation counting, nuclear physics and corona imaging.

Internship description:
Review all current photocathode processes offered by Photek. Document all non-solar blind processes to formally capture methodologies, equipment, tools and materials used. Prepare suitable test vehicles to investigate one of the photocathode processes and what improvements can be made to quantum efficiency. Intern will need to work with production manager, technical manager, test manager, design office and photocathode staff. The work will entail absorbing lots of data quickly, creating clear and concise documents that can be used as operating procedures by other staff. Design work may be required in collaboration with design office to create/modify equipment or jigs. Need to prepare and run experiments and analyze data. Report findings and offer recommendations.


Skill range:
Degree in physics, mechanical engineering or related sciences essential. Must be a hands-on person. An understanding of vacuum technology would be beneficial but not essential. An understanding of device physics and semiconductor theory would be beneficial but not essential. Materials knowledge would be preferable. Word, Excel, Access literate essential. Visual Basic capable would be beneficial.

graduated with a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a university or affiliated college in East Sussex or West Sussex in 2008, 2009 or 2010

or

graduated with a Bachelor's or Master's degree from any other UK university in 2008, 2009 or 2010 AND have a permanent address in East Sussex or West Sussex.
