Can anyone become an intern?

To apply for an internship, you must be able to answer ‘yes’ to one of these questions:

  • Have you graduated (in any subject) in 2008, 2009 or 2010 from a Sussex-based university or with an accredited degree from a Sussex-based college?
  • Have you graduated (in any subject) in 2008, 2009 or 2010 from any UK university and live in East or West Sussex?
  • Have you completed your postgraduate degree (in any subject) in 2008/09

Check out our information For Graduates.

How do I apply to be an intern?

Check out the current internships available.

Do you get paid for the internship?

You will be paid a grant equivalent to the minimum wage for the duration of the internship.

When will the graduate placements take place?

The internships are 20 working days, for 4 weeks full-time. See individual internship details for the start date as these vary.

Do I need a portfolio or work examples when applying?

If you are applying for a creative role, including marketing and PR, then yes most definitely. If you're applying for a creative role then you will be asked to provide a link to your work examples online. This can be a full portfolio or a link to an image sharing site like Flickr.

How many internships can I apply for?

You can apply for as many as you like; however we advise no more than three.

What are the chances of it turning into a permanent position?

Historically 50% of the internships have turned into job offers. Even if you don’t get a full-time job with the company you do your internship with then the experience will look great on your CV and should help you find a job elsewhere.

If I am not eligible or if I am unsuccessful in gaining an internship, is that it?

Not at all. We will also be putting on skills events that are open to anyone, which will give further advice, support and help to start your career in the industry. You can also check out the Wired Sussex Jobs Board for other job opportunities. You can also apply for further internships in the future.
